Water is the most important resource in the world and very essential to life. It forms about 75% of the human brain and also 75% of the earth. Water regulates the Earth's temperature and also regulates the temperature of the human body.

The World Water Day is an annual event held on the 22nd of March to highlight the importance of fresh water.


Based on how essential water is, Here are ten (10) Amazing facts about water you probably didn't know;

  • Do you know that someone can get intoxicated with water?

This occurs from drinking too much water than the capacity of your body system leading to swelling of the cells and causing symptoms such as headache, nausea and vomiting.

  • Water can aid in weight loss and weight gain?

A good amount of water intake can help burn calories and even suppress appetite if taken before meals leading to weight loss. Also, the body has a limited water capacity. If water taken exceeds this capacity, the body can no longer flush out the extra water and it will cause weight gain.

  • Water can help prevent hangovers?

Apparently, drinking alcohol can cause dehydration which may worsen hangover symptoms. But drinking water in between the period of taking alcohol can reduce this effect.

  • Do you know that dehydration may induce contractions in pregnant women?

Being dehydrated as a pregnant lady decreases your blood volume, thereby increasing the level of oxytocin in the blood which triggers contractions. Always stay hydrated.

  • Good water intake prevents the skin from sagging?

Water helps to keep moisture in the skin and improves its elasticity thereby, preventing wrinkles.

  • Do you know that a person can live about a month without food, but only about a week without water?

This is because the body needs water for almost every process, especially regulating body temperature through sweating, breathing and aiding in digestion by forming saliva and breaking down food.

  • The best way to get rid of water retention is to drink a lot of water?

Water retention which is also known as edema is an accumulation of fluid in body tissues and cavities caused by either over hydration or dehydration or an underlying disease, so, an increase in water intake can help get rid of it.

  • Water helps maximize your physical and mental performance?

Drinking a good amount of water removes toxins and provides energy sources for brain, thereby improving brain function. Also, it reduces muscle fatigue and the risk of injury for athletes.

  • Do you know that there is the same amount of water on Earth as there was when the Earth was formed?

The Earth's water is finite, that means the amount of water in, on, and above our planet does not increase or decrease.

  • Lastly, did you know a woman just needs about 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of water a day and a man just needs about 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of water a day?
