BENEFITS OF REGULAR DRINKING OF WATER TO THE JOINTS

HealthAide

Water is popularly known to be a magical elixir to drink. Hydration with water or any other fluid is vital for flushing toxins out of your body, which can help fight inflammation. Adequate water intake can help keep your joints well lubricated and prevent gout attacks. Drinking water before a meal can also help you eat less, promoting weight loss which is a common predisposing factor to joint diseases.

To understand this, we first must understand the function of cartilage. The cartilage is a connective tissue that lines the surface of the joints and acts as a cushion between the bones and cartilages, absorbing shock, and easing friction. Cartilage is kept lubricated by a gel-like liquid known as synovial fluid, which is formed by glycosaminoglycan bonding with Sulphur compounds.

Joint pain usually occurs when the cartilage has been weakened or damaged, which then leads to typical symptoms such as inflammation, pain, and stiffness. It has been said that about 60% of joint cartilage is made from water, this means that it is pertinent that we keep hydrated during periods of joint damage, otherwise our production of synovial fluid will be reduced and thus we increase our risk of friction pain and cartilage deterioration.

Therefore, it is critical that we continue to drink water as it can stimulate our production of synovial fluid, reduce inflammation around the joint and encourage the growth of new cells in the cartilage tissues.

Proper hydration also helps your body eliminate the wastes and toxins that cause gout and other painful conditions. It also helps the body lubricate your joints, which reduces joint pain and inflammation.

Water helps to keep your joints lubricated and flexible; the Synovial fluid that directly lubricates your joints is made up primarily of water. This fluid reduces the friction between joints and helps to maintain healthy tissue and joints.
